Xabi Alonso Breaks Silence on Real Madrid Links Amid Ancelotti Uncertainty

Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso has responded to increasing speculation linking him with the Real Madrid job, as current manager Carlo Ancelotti faces mounting pressure following the club’s Champions League elimination.

Real Madrid’s quarter-final exit at the hands of Arsenal has intensified calls for a managerial change at the Bernabéu, with Alonso’s name emerging as a strong contender to replace Ancelotti. The Spanish tactician, who played for Los Blancos between 2009 and 2014, has earned plaudits for his impressive work at Leverkusen, leading the club to new heights in German and European football.

Despite the growing noise, Alonso has distanced himself from the rumors. Speaking to the media, he emphasized his commitment to Bayer Leverkusen and made it clear that he is not paying attention to speculation regarding his future.

“This is not a good time to talk about the future,” Alonso said. “We are in a very important phase of the season. I don’t want to discuss speculation and market rumors. I understand that these things happen, but what matters most to me is what is happening right now.”

Alonso’s remarks reflect his professional focus as Leverkusen remains in the hunt for silverware in both domestic and European competitions. However, his refusal to completely dismiss the rumors has done little to silence discussions about a possible return to Madrid in a managerial role.

Meanwhile, Ancelotti’s position continues to be scrutinized. The veteran Italian coach, who guided Real Madrid to La Liga and Champions League glory in recent years, is now under intense pressure to deliver trophies this season. With the Champions League now out of reach, winning La Liga and the Copa del Rey has become crucial for his future at the club.

Both Ancelotti and Alonso have contracts with their respective clubs until 2026, but with Madrid’s high expectations and relentless pursuit of success, nothing can be ruled out. Should Real Madrid end the season without silverware, a managerial change seems increasingly possible.

As things stand, the future leadership of Los Blancos remains uncertain, and while Alonso remains focused on the present, many believe a return to the Spanish capital could be on the horizon.
